Eat at The Red Dory

I can’t recommend The Red Dory highly enough.  It’s super fresh, locally and responsibly sourced Mediterranean food as good as you’d find anywhere in the Mediterranean.  Tons of fresh seafood, simply yet interestingly prepared, along with several options for vegetarians and “turf” lovers as well.  Check out their menu.  And if you do go, please let Steve know that you heard this podcast.

A Recipe from The Red Dory

Fisherman’s Soup

  • 1 fennel bulb
  • 4 celery stalks
  • 3 carrots
  • 2 onions
  • 2T tomato paste
  • 2 lb. fresh haddock fillets
  • salt and pepper
  • pinch of saffron threads
  • 1/2t  curry powder
  • 1 gal  lobster stock (decent recipe here or buy here)

Dice the vegetables. In a medium stockpot, using a few tablespoons of good olive oil, sauté them quickly with the seasonings until they are translucent. Add the tomato paste and the haddock. Add the lobster stock, bring it to a boil, and then turn down the heat so that the soup can simmer gently for @ 30 minutes, until the haddock and the vegetables are thoroughly cooked. Cool down quickly and then purée until smooth. Cool the soup down quickly and refrigerate until ready to use.
